Firestick & Zenith TV: Vega OS is launched - here's what's new

📌 In a nutshell

Amazon has launched a new operating system called Vega OS,
but it is currently deployed on the Firestick 4K Select model.

This system completely blocks the installation of external applications, including via Downloader.
This means that Zenith TV cannot be installed on the Firestick 4K Select.

💡 Good news:
➡️ If you already have a Firestick 4K or a Firestick 4K Max, they still use Fire OS and remain compatible for the time being with Zenith TV.
For a new purchase, However, we recommend favoring other devices (Android TV / Google TV, TV boxes, etc.) because Amazon is gradually tightening restrictions on Fire TV Sticks.

✅ If you are already using a Firestick

Your Firestick currently uses Fire OS (Android-based).

You can continue to use Zenith TV normally, without restriction or modification.

No update to Vega OS for these devices. Nothing will change for them in this respect, and everything will continue to work as before until Amazon changes its policy.

❌ If you buy a Firestick or Fire TV after September 2025

Only the new Firestick 4K Select comes with Vega OS, a system that :

  • ❌ No longer able to install third-party APKs, even with Downloader
  • ❌ Is incompatible with classic Android apps
  • ❌ Completely prevents manual installation of apps from an external source

➡️ Zenith TV cannot be installed on the Firestick 4K Select.
✅ Technically, the Firestick 4K, Firestick 4K Max and even Firestick HD are still compatible today (HD works but is less recommended because it's less powerful). However, in view of the move towards Vega OS and the increasing restrictions, we no longer recommend investing in a new Firestick if your main objective is to use Zenith TV.

🛒 Can I still buy a compatible Firestick?

From a technical point of view, yes 👍 The models Firestick 4K and Firestick 4K Max always use Fire OS and are still compatible today with Zenith TV.

However, in view of the gradual transition to Vega OS and tighter restrictions on Fire TV Stick, we now recommend that you give preference to other devices for a new purchase (Android TV / Google TV, dedicated TV box, etc.).

⚠️ Le Firestick HD is also compatible, but not recommended It lacks power and can cause slowdowns. We recommend a more powerful box or device for a smooth, stable experience.

No, not on this device. Use Zenith TV on another compatible device, such as a Android TV / Google TV box (e.g. Chromecast 4K, Formuler Z10, Nvidia Shield TV), or directly on PC, mobile or other supported devices.

🔐 In conclusion

As long as you use a Firestick 4K, 4K Max or even HD,
you can continue to enjoy Zenith TV without any worries for the time being.

From September 2025 onwards, we simply recommend that you’avoid the Firestick 4K Select model and, more generally favour compatible alternatives (Chromecast, Android TV box, Nvidia Shield, etc.) for your future purchases.
